today

today in hospo we did a theroy lession to work on out assigment because our teacher ms geroge was away on camp so we had to work on the assigment and i am nearly finished the whole  thing i think so next term i will only have to worry on make the food yeahhhhhh

lemon squares

today we made lemon squares and they were very yummy and mine were very chewy because i had my put in the fridge so that they would be better then the ones that were hot and melted becuase mine were just right.the taste of the was very good too because we added just the right amount of stuff in it and they turned out great.

today in hospo we did a assigment lession because mrs george was away on camp with the grade 7s so we did it with mr larson and i am finished my rehsearch so i am starting my essay now and so i am going to finish earlier then most people

HEDGEHOG SLICE

today we made hedgehog slice and they were very good and yummy because we added the right amount of everything it was very yum and i would love to make them again becuase they were so good

SMOOTHIES AND BREAKFAST MUFFINS

today in hospo we had smoothies and they were very yum becuase i have lots of ice and honey in mine and it was very cold and at the same time we made  a breakfast muffin which was very yum too  i learnt how to mix a smoothie  correctly

TANGY LEMON SQUARES

Tangy Lemon Squares

Ingredients:

Base:
90gm melted butter
150gm (1 cup) flour
75gm (1/3 cup) caster sugar

Filling:

3 eggs
1 cup (220gm) caster sugar
2 tsp grated lemon rind
½ cup (125 ml) lemon juice

Method:

1.    Preheat oven to 180C.
2.    Line a slice tin with Glad bake.
    1. Combine butter, flour and sugar in a bowl. Press into the base of the slice tin. Bake for 20 minutes.
    2. Press mixture over base of slice tin. Bake in oven for 15 minutes.
    3. Place eggs, caster sugar and remaining ¼ cup of flour and juice in medium bowl until combined. Pour mixture over hot base of slice. Bake for 20 minutes or until firm.
6.    Cool in tin. When cold remove from tin and cut into slices.

160 gm butter
½ cup (125gm) sugar
2 Tbl (20gm) cocoa
2 Tbl (20gm) coconut
1 egg
½ cup (60gm) glace cherries\1/2 cup (60 gm) walnuts
2 cups (240gm) crushed biscuits
¼ tsp vanilla essence

Method:

  1. Place baking paper in the bottom of a slice tin.
  2. Melt butter and sugar in a saucepan, add cocoa and mix well-DO NT ALLOW TO BOIL.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in coconut and egg.
  4. Add walnuts, cherries and vanilla.
  5. Stir in crushed biscuits and mix well.
  6. Press into pan and chill.
  7. Cut into squares when cold.

Preparation Time

Ingredients (serves 2)

  • 125ml(1/2 cup) milk
  •  4 tbl  vanilla-flavoured yoghurt
  • 6 ice cubes
  • 1 tbl honey
  • fruit of your choice: eg. bananas, mango, strawberries, frozen berries, passionfruit etc.

Method

Place  the fruit, milk, ice cubes, honey and yoghurt in the jug of a blender and blend until smooth. Pour evenly between 2 serving glasses.

BREAKFAST MUFFINS

Breakfast on a Muffin
Work in pairs.
Ingredients:
2 English muffins

Choose from the following toppings:
Bacon/ham
Eggs
Shallots
Cheese: grated or sliced
Mushrooms
Tomatoes
Parsley
Lettuce
Tomato paste
Capsicum
Avocado
Tuna

Method:

  1. Prepare all ingredients. Precook any ingredients if necessary (eg. mushrooms or bacon)
  2. Use either a grill or a sandwich toaster to toast one side of your muffin.
  3. Place your toppings on the 2 halves of the muffin and grill until you are satisfied with the result.
  4. Place on a plate, garnish appropriately and serve.

BLAT SANDWICH

BLT sandwich
Ingredients (serves 2)
  • 4 rashers bacon, rind removed
  • 3 tbls  mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 4 slices multi grain bread
  • 2 iceberg lettuce leaves, shredded
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1 avocado, sliced
Method
  1. Grill the bacon until crisp, then transfer to a plate lined with paper towel to drain.
  2. Combine the mayonnaise and mustard in a bowl. Toast the bread and spread with half the mayonnaise mixture. Divide the lettuce between 4 slices of bread. Add bacon, tomato and avocado, drizzle with remaining mayonnaise, then top with remaining bread. Secure with a cocktail stick, or wrap in greaseproof paper.

BERRY YOGHURT MUFFINS

Berry yoghurt muffins
Ingredients:
1.5 cups SR flour
1/3 cup (30gm) rolled oats
3 eggs
¾ cup (200gm) mixed berry yoghurt
1/3 cup (80ml) vegetable oil
1 cup brown sugar (200gm)
300gm frozen raspberries

Method:

    1. Preheat the oven to 200F.
    2. Place muffin papers in muffin tins.
    3. Place the flour and oats in a bowl.
    4. Beat the eggs, yoghurt, oil and ¾ of the brown sugar in another bowl until well combined.
    5. Add 180 gm of berries to the flour mixture and stir gently to combine.
    6. Gently fold in the egg mixture until just combined.
    7. Spoon the mixture into the muffin pan and bake for 15 minutes or until firm to touch.
    8. While the muffins are cooking. Place the remaining berries and sugar in a saucepan with 1 tablespoon pf water. Cook stirring over a low heat for 2-3 minutes until berries soften slightly.
    9. Set aside to cool.
    10. Serve the muffins with the berry sauce and dusted wit icing sugar.

CHEESE CORN AND BACON MUFFINS


Cheese, Corn and Bacon Muffins
Ingredients:

  • ½ cup polenta (corn meal)
  • ½ cup milk
  • 3 bacon rashers with rind removed
  • 4 shallots-chopped finely
  • 1 ½ cups SR flour
  • 1 tablespoon caster sugar
  • 310gm can corn kernels-drained
  • 125gm tin creamed corn
  • 100gm butter-melted
  • 2 eggs-lightly beaten
  • ¾ cup grated cheese
  • 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese
  • 1/3 cup grated cheese extra

Method:

1.      Collect all ingredients.
2.      Preheat oven to moderately hot (200C).
3.      Prepare muffin tin as instructed.
4.      Mix polenta and milk in a small bowl and leave to stand while you prepare the other ingredients.
5.      Prepare all other ingredients.
6.      Cook bacon in a small frying pan for 2 minutes. Add onions and cook for another 2 minutes.
7.      Sift flour and sugar into a large bowl, stir in corn kernels, creamed corn, parmesan cheese and bacon mixture.
8.      Add melted butter, grated cheese, eggs and polenta mixture. Mix until only just combined.
9.      Divide mixture between muffin holes. Sprinkle extra grated cheese on top.
Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown and well risen. Serve warm.

FRIED RICE

Fried rice
Ingredients (serves 4)
  • 1 cup long grain white rice
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 2 bacon rashers, chopped
  • 1/3 cup bean sprouts
  • ½ cup diced cooked chicken
  • ¼ red capsicum
  • 1/3 cup corn kernals
  • 2 shallots, trimmed, finely sliced
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas, thawed
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce, plus extra to serve
Method
  1. Cook the rice in a large saucepan of boiling water for 12 minutes or until tender. Drain and leave to cool.
  2. Using a whisk, lightly beat eggs in a small bowl. Heat oil in non-stick wok or large frying pan over medium heat. Add eggs. Swirl over base to form an omelette. Cook 2 minutes. Turn over. Cook 2 minutes until set. Transfer to a chopping board. Set aside to cool slightly. Cut into short strips.
  3. Add bacon to wok. Cook 4 minutes until light golden. Add capsicum. Stir fry 1 minute. Add shallots, peas, corn, chicken and rice. Cook, stirring, 3-4 minutes. Add egg and soy sauce. Stir until heated through. Serve immediately, with extra soy.

coconut pancakes

Coconut pancakes with banana and maple syrup

Ingredients (serves 2)

2 ripe bananas
2 eggs (separated)
125 ml coconut milk
½ cup plain flour
½ tsp baking powder
2 tbl butter
maple syrup, icing sugar and ice cream for serving

Method

  1. Sift flour and baking powder into a bowl.
  2. Separate eggs. Beat together egg yolks and coconut milk.
  3. Gently fold in the sifted flour and baking powder.
  4.  In a clean bowl with electric beater, beat eggwhites until soft peaks form, then use a metal spoon to carefully fold into batter.
  5. Heat a non-stick frypan over medium heat and add a little of the butter.
  6. Drop 3-4 tablespoonfuls of mixture for each pancake into pan 2-3cm apart and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden. Flip and cook for 1 minute on other side. Transfer to a baking tray loosely covered with foil and keep warm in a low oven while you use remaining batter.
  7. Serve 2-3 pancakes per person with banana. Drizzle with syrup. Dust with icing sugar and serve with ice cream.

NACHOS YUM :)

Nachos
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time:20 minutes
Ingredients (serves 2)
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 small brown onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 small red or green capsicum, diced
  • 200g can diced tomatoes in juice
  • 250 gm minced steak
  • 1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
  • 1 x 220g packet light corn chips
  • 1 cup reduced-fat grated tasty cheese
  • 4 tablespoons purchased guacamole sauce
  • 4 tbl sour cream 
Method
  1. Heat oil in a large heavy-based frying pan over medium-high heat. Add onion and cook, stirring, for 2 to 3 minutes or until onion is tender. Add minced steak and cook until brown.
  2. Add red/green capsicum, tomatoes and Tabasco. Season with salt and pepper. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, or until vegetables are tender.
  3. Preheat oven to 200°C. Arrange corn chips on heatproof serving plates. Sprinkle with half of the cheese. Spoon over meat mixture. Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake for 10 minutes or until corn chips are crisp and cheese is melted.
  4. Garnish each with 2 tbl guacamole dip and sour cream.

The most important nutrients which should be include in breakfast food are fruits and veggies, dairy and whole grains as they have all the nutrients you need to keep you going and to keep you awake and happy till your next meal time.
Question E
The foods I am going to cook for my partner are freshly squeezed orange juice as it is full of vitamin c and vitamin c is very good for you as it keeps you healthy and free of sickness. I will also make her a bacon and cheese open grill sandwich, as it has the fiber and the protein we need for a healthy breakfast

hospo

Today in hospo we watched a video and we learnt a lot about fibre and what it is good for in our body. i learnt that we are ment to have 30 grams of fibre daily and that we are only eating 20 grams so we need to eat more fibre. i also learnt that coco pops have only 0.6g of fibre and that weet bix have 12 grams of fibre so the weetbix is much better then coco pops. this hospo was a really good lesson

Question A
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The name comes from break And fast which means you are breaking the fast you have been on for 8 to 12 hours. Breakfast helps you keep well and if you don’t have breakfast you would fell kind of yuck inside your body. Breakfast has a vary of choses to eat, but often include a carbohydrate, fruit, protein and sometimes a drink.If you skip out on your breakfast you will feel very weak and tired especially if you don't get a good night sleep. This is one of the reasons why when you wake up you are really grumpy until you get your morning coffee or tea. But if you include coffee in your breakfast menu it isn't a healthy choice even it pep you u and makes you feel alert and awake.
